Cubs go Harry Potter Crazy!

30th June 2014

Cubs go Harry Potter Crazy!

Cubs go Harry Potter Crazy!

On Friday 13th June 17 Cubs, 1 young leader and 7 leaders from 1st Birchington embarked on a Harry Potter adventure!

Cubs met the leaders (to be school teachers at Hogwarts for the weekend) at the railway station in Minster after school and walked them to the Minster campsite.  At the entrance to the campsite Cubs had to push their kit through Platform 9 3/4 to be able to enter Hogwarts!

In the grand hall, Cubs were then sorted into their 'Houses' by the magic sorting hat (with special effects!), Cubs were either in Griffendore, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slitherin house, once sorted Cubs took their kit to their tents and laid out their dorms!

It was soon getting dark and a few games of 'Fireball' soon wore the Cubs out so it was time for hot chocolate and bed!

A good nights sleep and after a cooked full English breakfast from Mrs Weasley it was time for the Cubs to start their wizard training! A quick 3 mile hike with a Harry Potter themed quiz along the way was followed by wand making which included whittling, knife and knot/rope skills! After lunch Cubs took part in 4 classes - Potions (where they gained their Scientist badge), Defence against the Dark Arts (Air Rifle Shooting), Herbology (Cubs made grass seed mandrakes) and Tracking skills (a creepy crawly hunt in the woods!).

It was soon time for the 'Grand Feast' and Cubs enjoyed a variety of hot and cold foods, including chocolate frogs and chocolate wands!

A good sing along around the campfire and it was time for bed again!

Sunday morning was busy! We again had a cooked breakfast of Eggy Bread and Bacon, before the big tidy up! All tents and equipment were put away, before it was time for our closing ceremony and the announcnement of the winning house (well done Hufflepuff!).

Cubs then hiked back to the station to be met by their parents.

It was a great weekend, and all the Cubs seemed to have a great time, they all enjoyed the theme and the various activities that were on offer.

My thanks to the Cubs for their wonderful behavior, they were a credit to the group as always (and they slept really well which was amazing!!).

And finally a huge thank you the the leadership team, Bagheera, Rowan, Kotick, Redwood, Grey Brother, Holly and Ciara, the camp wouldn't of happened without them and everyone really went to town with the Harry Potter theme from the costumes, to the food and the activities, so THANK YOU!
